Lord of the Flies (book update)

I have just started reading this novel, yet I can already tell it is going to be good. Aside from it being a classic and well renowned book, the story is very intruding and as long as you can get past the somewhat old writing style, I think it is well worth the read.

In case you are unfamiliar, the book is about the group of English school boys who have just survived a plane crash. This crash leaves them stranded on an island, where they attempt to create a democratic society amongst themselves. This all works out at first, but what happens by the end is a violent and chaotic tale about how laws and rules can come crashing down very quickly without proper morals or intentions.

Six of Crows reading update #2

The book Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo is an enthralling adventure that makes you wish you had more time to sit down and read. I almost finished with this fantasy novel and would highly recommend to anyone looking for a new adventure to follow and a new world to be introduced to. The story revolves around six older teenagers, who work as a team for the sole purpose of pulling of a very risky heist. What makes this story even more complicated though, is that each chapter is told by a different one of them and you get to know them and their backstories very well. The author makes this a funny, but also serious adventure that focuses on love, revenge, and greed as they navigate their lives in a magical world.

A Poetic Song About Being Happy: “Walk of life” by Dire Straights

The song “Walk of Life” by Dire Straights in their 1985 album, Brothers in Arms is a very upbeat song that talks about a street musician that is happy with his life despite his seemingly poor circumstances. This song teaches us a lot about being content with our lives and just to be happy. Some lines related to these themes are:

"And after all the violence and double talk
There's just a song in all the trouble and the strife"

"Dedication, devotion
Turning all the night time into the day"

"And after all the violence and double talk
There's just a song in all the trouble and the strife"

To me these lines convey a sense of happiness and joy surrounding Johnny even though he is struggling to “make it pay.” I think the overall message that this song is trying to show us is to be happy with what we have and enjoy life more.

Six of Crows Book Review

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo is a fantasy novel about greed, redemption, and trauma. The story hooks you from the start with its intricate setting and complicated characters. The story is about six teenagers who all have troubled pasts that are working together on a heist in order to get enough money to turn their lives around. They each have a unique background and set of skills to their advantage, and the novel leaves you wanting to know what happens next in this action packed yet thoughtful novel. However what really makes this novel so great is how it switches points of view each chapter and offers us a glimpse into each of their minds and past lives. Once you start reading it, it is hard to stop so I would definitely recommend giving it a try.

Racism in lion king

The movie Lion King is set in Africa, yet it only features animals. This could be interpreted as a way promoting a dominant narrative that Africa is wild and full of animals. It does not accurately represent modern day Africa and all of its culture.
